Responsive
We assessed a limited number of quality statements in the responsive key question and found areas of both good and poor practice. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection, which was good. Though the assessment of these areas indicated areas of both good practice and a concern since the last inspection, our rating for the key question remains good. Some people did not feel they were supported to maintain their links with their faith group, but the registered manager confirmed that representatives from these religious groups visited the home. Staff completed training on equality and diversity to support the way they provided care to meet people’s needs.
This service scored 71 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Equity in experiences and outcomes
People told us they were not always supported to access representatives from their preferred religious group. Religious festivals were celebrated as part of the activities programme. People were supported to provide feedback on the care they received with a person saying, “Sometimes they bring a survey around. I’m quite happy with things – I’ve known the carers for a long time and that matters the most.”
Staff completed training related to equality, diversity, privacy and dignity. Staff told us they felt people were treated equally with a staff member commenting, “In terms of residents. For us every resident is equal. We see what their needs are and deal with their needs.” The registered manager explained there were visits from the local churches and they celebrated religious festivals, but this was not reflected in the comments made by people who lived at the home.
Care plans included information on the person’s preferred activities, who is important to them and their relationships with family and friends. There is a section on each person’s care plan indicating their religious and cultural preferences with information on how staff could support them with their preferences.
