Caring
Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care. People’s independence, choice and control was promoted by the provider’s processes and people confirmed they were able to make choices about their care.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Treating people as individuals
We did not look at Treating people as individuals during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.
Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
Processes were in place to promote people’s independence, choice and control. People were involved in developing their care plans and had choice and control over what was included in them and the care that they received. Care plans were person-centred and included information about what people could do for themselves to help develop and maintain their independence. Staff told us how they supported people to make choices and to promote their independence. A staff member told us, “We open the wardrobe and let the person select what they want to wear.” Another member of staff said, “When it comes to food and clothes, I always try to give them choices.” Another member of staff told us about the importance of promoting people’s independence, saying, “I make sure I support them to do things they can for themselves.” People told us their independence, choice and control were promoted. One person said, “At first I couldn’t move my hands or fingers, things were so different then than they are now. The carers would put creams on for me, dress me, help me decide what to wear, do my shopping, I was very ill. Now that I have got better I can dress myself, make decisions, I can now go with the carer to do my own shopping. I am very happy with Oasis."
