Treating people as individuals
Staff understood the importance of treating people as individuals with their own specific needs and wishes. For example, they knew the type of activities that different people enjoyed and also their preferences in relation to eating and drinking and dressing. A staff member said, “I feel like we do everything we can to meet people’s needs. I feel people are happy here and feel they are safe to express otherwise.” Another said,” We deliver care around what each person’s wishes are.”
People’s care plans were up to date, personalised and contained information about their individual needs and preferences.
Independence, choice and control
The provider had a care planning system that ensures each person has care plans developed that are personal to their needs, choices and preferences. The registered manager said, “As part of our initial assessment of any new resident we explore the resident's individual choices and preferences to ensure we are best placed to meet their social, personal, cultural, ethnic and religious wishes and preferences. All of these are documented within a lifestyle plan, which continues to be reviewed and amended as long-term needs and abilities alter.”
