We did not look at all quality statements for Effective at this assessment. This rating uses some scores from the previous inspection. People’s needs were assessed to determine what support they required, and people were involved in the assessment process. People were able to consent to care as much as possible. Where they lacked the capacity to make decisions, decisions were made in their best interests, in line with legislation.

Assessing needs

The registered manager invited people to the service for assessment and had systems in place to undertake assessments of people’s needs when people were not able to view the service first. The provider had systems in place to review and update care plans as people's needs changed and relatives were involved where appropriate. Care plans detailed what was important to people and information sharing was clear. From speaking with the registered manager there was a holistic approach that included cultural needs and mental wellbeing as well as people's physical needs. We noted a good staff ratio, ensuring that they could adequately meet the needs of the people supported. Families told us that staff knew how to support their loved ones.

People told us staff asked for their consent when supporting them. We also observed this during the site visit.

Managers and staff told us they had received Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) training and were aware of their duties and responsibilities in relation to the MCA and DoLS. People had signed their consent for staff to support them and where appropriate families had signed in the best interests of their loved one. Care plans included details about people’s mental capacity and their ability to make decisions for themselves or not.
