An electronic care management system was used to assess people’s needs. Most people and relatives told us they were involved in the assessment process. Staff knew people’s needs and could describe these to us. People’s nutritional needs were met. Most people and relatives spoke positively about the meals. Consent was gained prior to staff providing care and support. People were supported to live healthier lives.

Assessing needs

An electronic care management system was used to assess people’s needs. Most people and relatives told us they were involved, where they wished to be, in the assessment process. Staff were aware of people’s assessed needs and could describe these to us.

Delivering evidence-based care and treatment

Staff delivered care in line with people’s needs. Most people spoke positively about the care and support they received. An electronic care management system was used to record people’s care and support. We received concerns about one person’s care and support which we passed to the registered manager to be reviewed. People’s nutritional needs were met. Most people and relatives spoke positively about the meals. Staff were aware of people’s nutritional needs and could describe these to us.

How staff, teams and services work together

There was a system in place to help ensure staff and health and social care services worked together. Staff explained that health professionals regularly visited the home and staff could contact them in between times, for any urgent advice or treatment. People told us that staff supported them to access health and social care services. Health and social care professionals generally gave positive feedback about the home and staff. One health and social care professional felt that communication could be improved at times.

Supporting people to live healthier lives

People were supported to live healthier lives. People and relatives told us, and staff confirmed that staff supported people to access health and social care services which met people’s needs.

Monitoring and improving outcomes

People’s care was monitored to help ensure they achieved positive outcomes. Most people gave positive feedback about living at the home. We heard how one person was moving out to live more independently and another person told us how their mental health and wellbeing had improved since being at the home. We received feedback from 2 people that they had not always achieved positive outcomes whilst living at the home. We passed this information to the management team for them to review.

There was a system in place to ensure consent was gained prior to providing care and support. Where people lacked capacity to consent to their care; records evidenced that staff followed the principles of the MCA to ensure people’s rights were upheld. People told us staff asked for consent prior to providing care and support. Staff were aware of the principles of consent and had undertaken training in this area.
