Supporting people to live healthier lives
Managers and senior care staff told us they had developed positive relationships with Quest (community nursing team) and district nurses and were able to request visits for people as they were needed.
Staff told us about using time supporting people with personal care to check for pressure sores, skin tears and bruising. They said any concerns would be raised with senior staff for investigation.
We saw examples of measures such as risk reviews, additional observations and discussion at daily handovers that would be put in place to provide enhanced support after an accident or if there was a risk to somebody’s health.
People’s relatives told us about staff’s willingness to support people to attend appointments and one said staff contacted the doctor when their relative had been unwell. They said, “It appears that the home and the GP have a good bond.”
All the people we spoke with commented that the food provided at the service was very well balanced. People enjoyed it, and said fresh fruit was always available. They felt that a great deal of thought went into the menu planning.
One person had been supported by a member of care staff to start attending a local gym and staff supported people out on walks. For those less physically able, chair exercises were held in the home.
