Independence, choice and control
People enjoyed activities in the home and the provider had taken steps to improve activities. A relative told us, “There’s a game board in the lounge and [person] goes in there for quizzes. They do have entertainment e.g. karaoke, and that is an improvement. There are more activities, especially this year.” Another relative said, “There is an activity schedule on the board, and they have sponsored events for the home to fund days out. They try to get [person] involved in activities. He would not take part at first but now he listens to the singers, goes on days out, does bingo etc. There is always something going on for them to do.”
Staff treated people in a dignified way and respected their wishes and choices. People were supported by staff who aimed to promote people’s independence wherever possible. Relatives told us about the progress their loved ones had made over the time they had lived at the home.
