Effective
People’s needs were assessed before they moved into the home and on an ongoing basis. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible. The policies and systems in the service supported this practice.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Assessing needs
People’s needs were assessed before they received support. This meant the registered manager could make sure staff were able to effectively meet people’s needs. A relative told us, “[Person] was involved in his care plan. The home went through his needs in the hospital before he went into the home. They explained everything to him when he looked round the home before admission.”
The registered manager and staff were aware of the processes for assessing and meeting people’s needs. Staff were observed to be supporting people in line with their care plans and risk assessments, which reflected their needs.
People’s choices and preferences were included in their assessments and associated care plans. These were regularly reviewed and updated in line with people’s changing needs and wishes.

Consent to care and treatment
People told us they were in control of their care and support and staff obtained their consent prior to providing support.
Staff supported people in line with MCA and best practice guidance. Staff had received MCA training and sought consent from people prior to providing support.
The provider worked within the principles of the MCA. Where limitations and restrictions were being imposed upon people, appropriate capacity assessments and best interest decisions were in place. There was evidence of signed consent forms in care files.
