Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 9 to 15 January 2025. The service is a small residential home for 3 younger adults with a learning disability and autism. Some people also had mental health needs. This was the first assessment since the service registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. The provider was meeting this guidance. People were involved in making decisions about their support and were participated in the activities they wanted to do. Staff understood and managed risks. Incidents were reported, investigated and discussed with the staff team and relatives, where appropriate, to improve support and reduce the risk of further incidents. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Bespoke training to meet individuals’ specific needs was provided. Staff felt well supported by the manager and were able to raise any ideas or concerns they had. Staff managed medicines well. People’s needs were assessed, involving relatives and professionals where appropriate. Staff reviewed these assessments and updated them when needs changed. People were involved in choosing what they had to eat and were supported to maintain their health. The service worked well with other agencies and professionals involved in people’s care and support. People were treated with kindness and compassion. We observed positive relationships between people and the staff team. Staff treated people as individuals and they were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff enjoyed working at the service. Managers were visible and led by example. An effective governance system was in place to monitor the service and address any issues found
